Halloween: Trick of the Devil or Treat from God?

If the Devil walked into your house or into your church building with a red suit, long red tail, and horns, you would know without a shadow of a doubt that was the Devil. Even the Devil knows this.

Unfortunately, most people will not believe it’s him unless he shows up this way. But, that’s not the way the Devil comes. He comes cunningly deceitful, and this is why he catches most people off guard. That is why we have been warned by God innumerable times.

I PETER 5:8 – Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

EPHESIANS 6:11,12 – Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

JAMES 4:7,8 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Even in America, which was founded upon God, many Christians have been fooled by one of the shrewdest tricks of Satan – that is the celebration of Halloween. He has cunningly devised a scheme whereby he allures us and our children by seemingly harmless costumes, symbols and so-called “fun” – while we stand by and look at them calling them “cute.” Then we wonder why our children are afraid of the dark and afraid to sleep along.

THAT IS WHY THE BIBLE TELLS US…

JER. 10:2 – LEARN NOT THE WAY OF THE HEATHEN…

IN 2 CORINTHIANS 6:14 – THAT THERE IS NO FELLOWSHIP WITH RIGHTEOUSNESS AND UNRIGHTEOUSNESS AND THAT THERE IS NO FELLOWSHIP WITH LIGHT AND DARKNESS.

HALLOWEEN has its origination straight from the pits of hell folks, and it’s time for God’s people to stand up and be a witness for the Lord and not a participant in that which He abhors.

Ancient Origins of Halloween

“Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Druids, or Celtic priests, to make predictions about the future. For a people entirely dependent on the volatile natural world, these prophecies were an important source of comfort and direction during the long, dark winter.

To commemorate the event, Druids built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities. During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically consisting of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each other’s fortunes. When the celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires, which they had extinguished earlier that evening, from the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the coming winter.”

I hear you saying – Well, I didn’t know about this!

HOSEA 4:6, stated: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

So, let’s say you were simply ignorant of this. You had never been taught that it was wrong. In fact, you know many of practicing Christians who do the same thing. That’s ok. I’ve been there too. I thought it was completely innocent as a child, but now I know better. If this is you too, God is more than willing and able to forgive you.

I JOHN 1:9 – IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS, HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS, AND TO CLEANSE US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.

THEN WHAT DO WE DO???

WE GET RID OF ALL THINGS CONNECTED WITH THE DEVIL, JUST LIKE THEY DID IN – – ACTS 19:18 & 19

AND MANY THAT BELIEVED CAME, AND CONFESSED, AND SHEWED THEIR DEEDS. MANY OF THEM ALSO WHICH USED CURIOUS ARTS BROUGHT THEIR BOOKS TOGETHER, AND BURNED THEM BEFORE ALL MEN: AND THEY COUNTED THE PRICE OF THEM, AND FOUND IT FIFTY THOUSAND PIECES OF SILVER.

I know it’s going to seem a bit strange not allowing your children to participate in it this year, but don’t do it. Sit them down and explain why not. For the record, that doesn’t mean you find an “alternative” either. I see no need in celebrating the day at all unless you’re celebrating it like all the other days the Lord has made.
